Physiotherapy Assistant – Apprenticeship

Would you like to join the Physiotherapy team at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust? We have 2 opportunities (1x 37.5 hours/week, 1x 30 hours/week), suitable for someone interested in starting a career within the physiotherapy team who does not hold a physiotherapy degree. The posts will start as a Band 2 and be expected to progress to a Band 3 within two and a half years; training will be offered to support this progression, most significantly in house training and the opportunity to attend Derwentside College 1 day a week to work towards gaining a Level 3 qualification. The full-time post is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, at the Major Trauma Centre, Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 16:00
The 30 hour post is within the Orthopaedic team, primarily based at the Freeman Hospital, Tuesday – Friday 8:00 – 16:00 (cover for weekends, twilight, and bank holidays also). The successful applicants will work alongside a team of physiotherapists; enabling rehabilitation, progressing mobility and promoting exercise and bring skills including; effective team working, highly developed communication, IT and moving and handling skills. Attributes will include; being flexible, honest, kind, reliable and willing to learn.

Main duties of the job
- Provision of equipment as assessed by Physiotherapist.
- Facilitating recovery of patients by helping with mobilising patients alongside Physiotherapists.
- Promoting activity with patients.
- Demonstrating and progressing exercise programmes with patients.
- Completing relevant clinical notes and ongoing referrals as relevant.
- Working alongside MDT to provide best care for patients.
- Communicating effectively with patient, family and encouraging participation in rehab.
- Rehabilitation of patients independently or alongside members of the physiotherapy team.
- Administrative and computer based tasks.

Job responsibilities
Band 2 – Physiotherapy Assistant – Apprentice
- To work alongside and under the supervision of the physiotherapy team to supply both direct and indirect patient care.
- To carry a caseload delegated by a chartered physiotherapist who has carried out an initial assessment.
Band 3 – Physiotherapy Technical Instructor
- Under the supervision of a registered Physiotherapist the Technical Instructor will independently manage a designated caseload of patients, defined as non-complex, within a specified clinical area, providing assessment and interventions on behalf of the physiotherapist within predetermined guidelines.
- All patients will have an initial assessment carried out by a state registered physiotherapist.
Apprenticeship Posts You will need to be able to meet all the eligibility requirements as prescribed by the apprenticeship criteria to undertake the role.
To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must:
- Have the right to work and remain in the UK.
- Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.
- Provide original evidence of required English and maths qualifications.

- You will not be considered if you have an equivalent or higher qualification in the same or a very similar subject.
- You must not be engaged in any other funded training or education programme.
- We cannot sponsor applicants during or on successful completion of the apprenticeship so please ensure you meet visa status eligibility.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including Maths and English
- Associate Member of Chartered Society Of Physiotherapy
- NVQ level II or III in Therapeutic and Diagnostic Care or other relevant subject
