The Paediatric team at UHB are keen to recruit an individual who is hard working, organised and passionate about providing an excellent service to fulfil our Ward Services Coordinator role.

This post is part time, 24 hours per week over 3 days, Monday – Friday. There is no option for weekend or night duty.

The position will be on the Children’s ward at Good Hope Hospital.

The post holder must be physically active throughout the shift, able to move and handle equipment and stock safely. Working in the clinical environment requires effective communication with colleagues and visitors, maintaining confidentiality, using IT systems and adhering to trust policies and procedures.

Main duties

You will work in a clinical environment where children and families are cared for during illness. Though you will not be delivering direct patient care, you will conduct yourself professionally at all times and demonstrate compassion.

  • Ensure provisions of essential stock, preparation of equipment and arrange servicing of equipment.
  • Maintain the clinical area safe and free from hazards.
  • Maintain storage and organisation of stock, review stock levels and expiry dates, order additional supplies using an IT ordering system.
  • Support clinical staff to ensure the environment and equipment is clean and working appropriately.
  • Complete designated competency-based training sessions in medicines management to maintain pharmaceuticals at agreed levels, maintaining secure and appropriate storage according to Trust policy.
  • Adhere to UHB infection control and Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrate respect to colleagues, patients, families and visitors, promote inclusivity and equality.
  • Communicate effectively with paediatric colleagues, external departmental teams and visitors, recognising barriers to communication and implementing strategies to overcome them.
  • Adhere to UHB policies, procedures and trust values.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of Level 2 on both Maths & English qualifications (CSE Grade 1/GCSE Grades 4-9 or A* -C / Level 2 Functional Skills / O Level grade A-C / Level 2 National Certificate / Level 2 National Diploma / Level 2 ESOL).
  • Evidence of completion of Level 3 Qualification or above in Health / Social Care or Hospitality & Catering (BTEC/ CACHE Level 3 Award / Level 3 Certificate or Diploma) or 2 A-levels or equivalent experience of working in the NHS in a patient/public facing role in health / care or hospitality & catering.
  • Evidence of completion of training associated with employment in a role in health / care / hospitality or catering (e.g., Customer service / Food Hygiene / Care Certificate / Health & Safety such as COSHH).
  • Evidence of completion of in‑house training associated with employment, via online training platforms, Moodle, or in‑house training.

Experience

  • Considerable experience of working in a health/care or hospitality/catering role which is customer facing in an NHS or health / care provider role as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Experience of undertaking audit of stock and replenishment of supplies.
  • Understanding of the roles that make up the team of health and care staff within a hospital setting.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, Infection prevention & control practice, Food hygiene practice/standards, Moving and handling, Customer service /care skills.
  • Awareness of potential distressing situations associated with hospital patient care.
  • Understanding of how this role contributes to patient health and wellbeing.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and how this relates to this role.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and how this relates to the role.
  • Understanding of how data protection and confidentiality relate to the role.
  • Understanding and support of ward/service routine and structures.
  • Participation in training associated with the role.
  • Supports / trains and educates new staff on the role / duties associated with the role.
