Lead Operator – Arable Farm
A well‑established 2,000‑acre arable farm in Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Lead Operator to join a small full‑time team. This is a hands‑on role for someone who takes pride in operating and maintaining machinery to a high standard and enjoys being part of a close‑knit farming operation. Working alongside the Farm Manager, you will play a key role in delivering the farm’s cropping programme and ensuring day‑to‑day operations run smoothly throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating modern arable machinery including tractors, drills, cultivators and combines
- Sprayer operation throughout the cropping season
- Combine driving during harvest
- Machinery setup, maintenance and routine servicing
- Grain handling and grain store work during harvest
- Supporting general farm maintenance and occasional building work
- Working as part of a small, dedicated farm team
The Candidate
- Proven experience in arable farming operations
- Confident operating sprayers and combines
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates required
- Strong mechanical understanding and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for tasks
- A practical, reliable approach with a willingness to work longer hours during busy periods
Package
- About 40 hours per week during winter months
- 60+ hours per week during harvest and peak seasonal periods, with overtime paid
- Hourly rate £16.00 – £17.50 DOE
- 2 bedroom cottage available as part of the package
Candidate Requirements
All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
