About The Role

Applications are invited to join the Anatomy team at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. The individual will be joining an award‑winning team that teaches 3,000 students a year and delivers outstanding anatomical education to a range of programmes including allied‑health, medicine and higher surgical training.

As an Anatomy Demonstrator you will play an important role in our students’ development through guidance, support, and delivery of high‑quality anatomical teaching and assessment. You will teach and supervise students during a range of teaching sessions, including dissection and prosection sessions, living anatomy and ultrasound sessions, and revision sessions. You will also be required to produce teaching resources and learning materials, including the creation of prosections.

This role comes with full funding to complete the taught PGCert in Medical Education from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

About You

Ideally, you will have a degree in medicine or a postgraduate qualification in human anatomy or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. You will have strong knowledge and understanding of human anatomy as applied to cadaveric material and preferably experience of anatomy dissection. You will have experience teaching at undergraduate level and be able to use excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to engage students through a variety of inclusive and effective teaching methods.

You should have knowledge of the Human Tissue Authority requirements relating to the use of donors in anatomy education and show a willingness to contribute to student support activities beyond core teaching duties. A recognised higher education teaching qualification, experience teaching anatomy using cadaveric material at undergraduate or postgraduate level, membership of a relevant professional body, and involvement in education scholarship or research would be desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise students during dissection, prosection, living anatomy, ultrasound, and revision sessions.
  • Produce teaching resources and learning materials, including prosections.
  • Engage students through inclusive, effective teaching methods.
  • Contribute to student support activities beyond core teaching duties.
  • Support compliance with Human Tissue Authority requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree in medicine or postgraduate qualification in human anatomy or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy applied to cadaveric material and experience of anatomy dissection.
  • Experience teaching at undergraduate level.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Recognition of higher education teaching qualification, membership of a relevant professional body, and involvement in education scholarship or research is desirable.
