About the Role

We are currently seeking an Principal Designer to join our team based in Birmingham

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, managing and monitoring pre‑construction phase of relevant projects
  • Provide Pre‑Contract advice; site visits; appraisals and assistance in the development of Employers Requirements, specification or procurement
  • Assist in identifying, obtaining, collating and disseminating Pre‑Construction Information as defined in the CDM Regulations
  • Liaise and cooperate with any other persons involved in projects
  • Assist in the development of adequate and suitable management arrangements for the project/s including advising on mobilisation periods
  • Establish and implement procedures for collation and storage of Health and Safety Information; a programme and procedure for reporting, management of changes and design co‑ordination in relation to health and safety matters
  • Attend all relevant meetings as necessary
  • Take steps to ensure that designers comply with their duties under the CDM Regulations
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor to prepare the Construction Phase Plan; agree scope, structure and format of the Health and Safety File at the outset of the Project with Client and contractor
  • Prepare, amend and add to the Health and Safety File throughout the Project
  • Manage aspects of design including any changes, in accordance with the CDM Regulations
  • Review access and maintenance strategies to ensure that these comply with the CDM Regulations
  • Advise on duties and obligations under the CDM Regulations during the Construction Phase and throughout the Project
  • Quality manage a broad range of projects to achieve the best standards and value for the client
  • Be responsible for the highest possible quality standards for every project
  • Visit sites as directed by Project Manager / Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyor to ensure works are carried out in accordance with the drawings and specification
  • Ensure building standards for health and safety and workmanship are being met and report these to relevant persons
  • Help to manage / mentor junior staff
  • Create a team environment in which everyone is committed to producing a quality outcome
  • Gain the confidence of the client
  • Liaise with other members of the team to ensure consistency of service delivery and identify opportunities for developing both the quality and profitability of the service

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a Principal Designer and be fully proficient with CDM 2015 regulations
  • A sound understanding of the principles of risk reduction, design process and construction stages
  • Health & Safety implementation and monitoring
  • A strong track record in Construction Industry, demonstrating a progressive career path
