Skilled Cemetery Operative

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Location: Gilroes Cemetery, Leicester, Central Region

Salary: £26,403 – £28,142 per year

Package: Total benefit value (including pension contribution and full holiday entitlement): £38,374.53

What You’ll Be Doing

• Prepare graves for burial, backfilling and subsequent aftercare either mechanically or manually using shoring, shuttering and plant equipment.
• Locate graves using cemetery plans and maps, prepare and dress graves for funerals, level and turf graves and surrounding areas.
• Operate and cleanse powered and manual hand tools, specialised plant and other equipment.
• Liaise with Funeral Directors and members of the clergy to discuss issues in preparation for future burials.
• Carry out exhumations and assist in the development of soft and hard landscaping and other horticulture activities as needed.

What You’ll Need

• Experience of outdoor work using construction or agricultural machinery with knowledge of basic maintenance, motor vehicles or other mechanical equipment.
• Empathy and compassion to deal sensitively with members of the public and others during times of personal stress and grief.
• Basic admin skills to ensure records of interments are accurate and up to date, and to complete all necessary paperwork.
• Valid driving licence.
