The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Class 1 Driver to join our Transport department based out of our site in Tipton.

Responsibilities

  • Driving and operating a Class 1 vehicle.
  • Operating walking floor / moving floor trailers within the waste and recycling sector.
  • Completing deliveries and collections between depots.
  • Complete daily vehicle check sheets and defect reports as directed by the Transport Operations Manager.
  • Observe all relevant driving laws and regulations.
  • Use tachographs correctly and comply with drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
  • Always provide good customer service, both over the telephone and face to face.
  • Observe all health and safety requirements as directed.
  • Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of vehicles and work areas at all times.
  • Plan routes in the most time and fuel‑efficient manner.
  • Work Monday to Friday with 06:00 start times.
  • Complete long, steady shifts with full use of driving hours.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Transport Operations Manager.

Person Specification

  • Valid Class 1 (C+E) licence with a clean driving record.
  • Driver CPC qualification (or currently working towards obtaining it).
  • Digital Tachograph card.
  • Experience operating a mixed variety of trailer types, ideally including walking floor / moving floor trailers.
  • Knowledge of drivers’ hours regulations, Working Time Directive rules, and both digital and analogue tachographs.
  • Strong work ethic and reliable approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional and customer‑focused manner, as you will be a key customer‑facing representative of the business.
  • Smart and professional appearance.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and ability to overcome challenges on the road.
  • Ability to follow planned routes and schedules efficiently.
