Location: St Paul’s Trust School (Secondary) – Birmingham B12 8NJ
Hours: 5 days per week, term‑time only – 35 hours per week plus inset days
Salary: £22,274 – £24,796 per annum – salary in line with term‑time working weeks

School background – St. Paul’s Secondary School is a small independent school located in the heart of Balsall Heath. It provides targeted support for young people aged 11–16 who experience social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. Previous pupils have exhibited challenging behaviours associated with complex conditions such as ASD, ADHD, and other social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
Job summary – We are looking for a Family Support Practitioner to join our team. As the Family Support Practitioner, you will be based at the setting and work in close partnership with school staff to deliver a programme of casework to promote and improve educational outcomes for children and their families. You will also focus your support to improve attendance, punctuality, and engagement in learning.
Key responsibilities – Build strong relationships with families, schools, and communities; deliver individual and group support; communicate effectively with diverse audiences; safeguard children in line with statutory procedures; promote attendance and engagement.
Qualifications & experience – You’ll have previous experience of:
- Working in an education setting or similar to improve a child’s school attendance and engagement in learning
- Working and engaging with parents/carers, children or individuals through individual and/or group‑based support
- Understanding factors affecting a child’s capacity to learn
- Working with families from diverse communities
- Caring for families holistically
- Safeguarding processes and referral routes for safeguarding children
