Clinical Nurse Specialist (ADHD) Children and Young People

This role involves working with children and young people who have Attention‑Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). You will provide expert assessment, diagnosis, ongoing care, and nurse‑led clinics, managing medication and monitoring progress to ensure safe and effective care.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver person‑centred care.
- Lead nurse‑led clinics and manage a personal caseload from referral through to discharge, including assessments, interventions, prescribing, and exercising clinical autonomy.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team working, service development, and governance activities (research, audit, quality improvement).
- Provide consultation, advice, and liaison to colleagues and external agencies to promote coordinated, high‑quality care.
- Offer guidance and education to families and schools, develop early intervention strategies, and promote best practice in ADHD care.
- Provide training and supervision to colleagues and participate in research and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications – Education and Training
- Hold a Nursing and Midwifery Professional qualification – RNMH/RCN/RN.
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of children’s mental health services and ADHD, with practical experience.
- Successfully completed Independent Non‑Medical Prescribing qualification.
- Substantial experience as an independent non‑medical prescriber with individuals with ADHD.
- Specialist knowledge of ICD‑11/DSM‑5 ADHD assessment criteria.
- Able to exercise advanced clinical judgment in complex situations, analysing multiple factors to select the most appropriate course of action.
- Experience providing training in a range of settings.
- Experience prescribing medication for young people.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Can communicate and establish working relationships with young people and their families to receive and deliver complex information regarding their care.
