Are you an enthusiastic and dynamic General Practitioner looking to join a thriving and supportive team?

North Halifax PCN is a well-established network of four collaborative practices delivering outstanding care to our population for over 7 years. Our vision is to build services that improve patient outcomes, share clinical skills consistently, ease practice workload, and continue to develop our premises.

We are looking for a GP to join us on a salaried contract. We will consider applications for 5 sessions with a start date as soon as possible.

The hours of work are by agreement during our core business hours 08:00 – 18:30h.

The post holder will work either from the hub or on a rota basis between the member practices, supporting our practices with GP access and appointments. We are a highly supportive PCN and the practices all work closely within the PCN, understanding the importance of a good work/life balance with patient centred care.

A training budget will be invested in your development during this contract. We will work with you to tailor a package of training support and study leave that will provide the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to thrive in the early years of your career.

Main Duties

  • Provide face‑to‑face and telephone consultations for routine and urgent care.
  • Manage patient care in surgery, including investigating and reviewing results, developing care plans, and making referrals to secondary care, the PCN team or other providers.
  • Issue and sign repeat prescriptions, ensuring they align with national/local guidelines.
  • Record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes using EMIS and S1 clinical systems.
  • Ensure safe, evidence‑based, and cost‑effective care, in line with Practice clinical protocols and NICE guidance.
  • Independently prescribe medications within your scope of practice.
  • Utilise other available clinical and support staff in delivering a holistic and patient‑centred care.
  • Actively participate in MDT and care conference meetings, as required.
  • Administer and handle patient‑related queries, test results, referral letters, and other tasks in a timely manner.
  • Conduct patient home visits if needed (Acute Visiting Service unlikely).
  • Be the responsible clinician on site at the new premises only in an emergency.
  • Aim to get actively involved with the team using leadership and mentoring skills to help develop the PCN team.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Independent working – support will always be available.

Qualifications

  • GMC registration.
  • GP postgraduate qualification.
  • Not employed in a substantive post in the past 12 months within any of the core network practices.

Skills, Knowledge and Personal Qualities

  • Working knowledge of the NHS and care systems.
  • Understanding the demographics and needs of patients.
  • Experience of continued professional development.
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in General Practice with S1 /EMIS.
  • Training and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of clinical systems: SystmOne and EMIS.
  • Driving licence and use of a car.
