About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead a Leaving Care 16+ Team. This is a key leadership role within Children’s Services, ideal for a confident manager with strong local authority experience and a proven ability to support high‑quality practice and performance.

You will be responsible for overseeing frontline practice, supervising staff, managing risk, and ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people in care.

Main Purpose of the Job – Summary

  • Lead, manage and support a team of social workers and personal advisors working with children in care and care leavers.
  • Improve outcomes for looked‑after children and care‑experienced young people through effective partnership working with council services and partner agencies.
  • Help deliver the Council’s Corporate Parenting vision for children in care and care leavers.
  • Operate at Advanced Social Worker level in line with the PCF and KSS for practice supervisors.

Key Accountabilities – Summary

  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Manage and motivate staff, provide regular reflective supervision, oversee casework and decision‑making, and support staff development.
  • Case Allocation & Oversight: Allocate cases within statutory timescales and ensure quality planning, reviews, and visits for children in care and care leavers.
  • Performance Management: Monitor team performance using data, complete staff development plans, and ensure practice standards are met.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct audits and identify areas of good practice and improvement across children’s services.
  • Budget & Resources: Manage delegated team budgets and monitor expenditure.
  • Recruitment: Support safer recruitment and selection of new staff.
  • Meetings & Decision Making: Chair strategy, planning, review, and professional meetings when required.
  • Policy & Practice Development: Stay updated with legislation, policy, research, and national trends to maintain high professional standards.
  • Practice Model: Implement and embed the Signs of Safety model in practice and supervision. xwzovoh
  • Service Support: Deputise for the Group Manager and support wider service development when required.
