Role Purpose

The Deputy Head of IT Services supports the GEDU Head of Infrastructure in the strategic and operational management of IT services across Global Banking School (GBS). The role focuses on the day-to-day leadership of IT operations, service delivery, and project execution, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-quality technology services for staff and students.

Acting as the deputy to the Head of IT Services, the postholder will assume leadership responsibility in their absence and play a key role in driving continuous service improvement, digital transformation, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of GEDU Head of Infrastructure in delivering the IT strategy and operational plans.
  • Lead the day-to-day management of IT operations and service delivery across all campuses.
  • Ensure IT services meet agreed service levels, performance standards, and customer expectations.
  • Oversee incident, problem, and change management processes in line with ITIL best practice.
  • Manage and deliver IT projects and digital improvement initiatives.
  • Deputise for the GEDU Head of Infrastructure as required, including representation at senior meetings.
  • Support information security, data protection, and compliance activities.
  • Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party suppliers and support contract performance.
  • Contribute to budget management and ensure effective use of IT resources.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and line management to IT staff as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant undergraduate qualification in IT or a related discipline
  • Substantial experience in IT service delivery or operations management
  • Experience working within Higher Education or a similarly complex organisation
  • Strong technical understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, and services
  • Experience working with IT service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL)
  • Proven ability to manage staff, suppliers, and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting or delivering change

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification or professional IT certifications
  • Project management qualifications or experience
  • Experience supporting digital or technology-enhanced learning environments
