Development role available – Band 5/6
My name is James Hussain, I am the Team Manager for Secure CAMHS at Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home. We are seeking a Band 5 (development role) or a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to join our secure CAMHS team. This role provides an opportunity to build therapeutic relationships with young people, assess risk and mental health needs, liaison with partner agencies, develop and run therapeutic groups, and offer trauma‑informed 1:1 interventions. You will work within an experienced multidisciplinary team under supportive operational and clinical leadership.
Key duties
- Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation for other agencies/professionals.
- Participate in the CAMHS on‑call rota.
- Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
- Provide routine and urgent assessment and interventions to young people with a wide range of emotional and psychological problems.
- Support the ongoing delivery of a comprehensive CAMHS system.
- Provide assessment, interventions, therapy to children, young people with severe, complex and persistent mental health problems.
- Apply a sound knowledge of safeguarding children and guidelines in clinical work.
- Maintain professional registration equivalent to HCPC, NMC, SWE.
- Use information technology systems (including Rio and System One).
- Participate in audit and quality improvement activities.
- Ensure clinical governance and corporate frameworks are complied with.
- Engage service stakeholders and users in development and monitoring of service delivery.
- Maintain relevant professional registration and participate in annual appraisal.
Qualifications and experience (Band 6)
- Professional qualification: nursing, or allied professionals, Dip SW or relevant mental health profession.
- Membership of professional body.
- Relevant post‑registration qualification (e.g., degree).
- Experience with children, young people and carers in a mental health or complex care setting.
- Experience of supervising/mentoring junior staff.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance (NHS Plan, Mental Health Legislation, Children’s Act, etc.).
- Clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills in mental health.
- Experience of assessment and risk management and implementation of evidence‑based practice.
- Experience safeguarding children and young people.
Qualifications and experience (Band 5)
- Relevant professional qualification (nursing, psychologist, psychotherapist, etc.).
- Relevant statutory professional body registration.
- Pre‑registration experience in clinical field or closely related area.
- Knowledge of current issues in health and social care.
- Basic understanding of clinical governance and quality measures.
- Experience working with young people and in a secure environment (desired).
Essential knowledge and skills
- Good verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage own caseload.
- Negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
- Customer service orientation.
- Effective record keeping and report writing.
- IT skills (word processing, email).
- Team working skills and ability to predict and manage inter‑disciplinary tensions.

- Experience in community settings and different cultural contexts.
- Knowledge and experience of working with equality and diversity.
- Training and experience relating to specialist CAMHS.
- Experience delivering training or facilitating clinical supervision.

Salary: £31,049 to £46,580 a year, Band 5‑6 dependent on experience.
