Overview

The unit is looking for a proactive and dynamic Band 6 sister/charge nurse who is ready to rise to the challenge. The successful candidate will lead a diverse team of nurses, ensure the highest standards of patient‑centred care, and support both inpatient and day‑care haematology services.

Responsibilities

  • Act as deputy to the Clinical Nurse Manager as required.
  • Lead a team of nurses and healthcare assistants, supporting the Ward Manager in delivering high‑standard patient care.
  • Create an environment that promotes excellence in nursing practice and empowers staff to develop high levels of clinical skill and autonomy.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate care programmes, ensuring a welcoming, safe and caring environment for patients and their families.
  • Provide care within the Haematology Unit (Drake Ward) and support day‑care patients in the Haematology Day Care/Assessment Room as needed.
  • Act as a resource and specialist in the teaching and development of nursing staff, ensuring mandatory and in‑house training is maintained.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy administration.
  • Expertise in caring for haematology patients, including those with sickle cell disease.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, with a proven ability to manage teams and deliver patient‑centred care.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and teaching of nursing staff.
