Job Description:

We are excited to advertise our Senior Clinical Nurse position for our 12 bedded inpatient facility commissioned by NHS England Specialist Commissioning. S3 is the only adult NHS specialist eating disorder unit in the East of England. It caters for adults over 18 years of age who have a diagnosed eating disorder and have been assessed as being at high risk due severity of their illness.

The ward provides individual intensive support for weight restoration, education and psychological interventions. The ward works closely with regional community eating disorder teams who are gatekeepers of inpatient referrals and uses a multidisciplinary approach.

As a Senior Clinical Nurse you will be responsible for the provision of quality evidence‑based nursing advice, support, and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead on the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  2. Identify and contribute to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
  3. Ensure effective communication pathways exist and that the night shift is led in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Ward Manager or the designated deputy.
  4. Supervise and participate in the role of named nurse in relation to care planning within the clinical area.
  5. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care for a named service user/group, including health promotion, ensuring it meets Trust timescales.
  6. Set quality standards, monitor and review in line with current clinical guidance, practice and policy.
  7. Utilise available data, including learning from incidents and complaints.
  8. Ensure the post holder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach.
  9. Observe, adhere to and implement the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007.
  10. Promote carer and service user involvement and support their recovery, discovery and independence, taking into account risk assessment and management.
  11. Establish therapeutic relationships with service users and implement evidence‑based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council’s professional code of conduct.
  12. Lead on the provision of social/therapeutic activities for service users.
  13. Ensure the safe custody and administration of medicines in accordance with all medicine policies and maintain compliance.
