Senior Quantity Surveyor – UK Construction
Marylebone, London (Full-Time, Office-Based)
£55,000 – £60,000 (depending on experience)

We’re working with a well-established construction business seeking a confident and detail-oriented Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of subcontract management across major projects.

The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll lead the full lifecycle of subcontract management—from procurement through to final account—ensuring everything is commercially sound, contractually compliant, and delivered to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontract Procurement & Strategy
- Manage the end-to-end tendering process, including preparation and issue of ITT packages
- Analyse and benchmark subcontractor bids, making informed recommendations
- Lead negotiations to secure best value and favourable terms
- Draft and finalise robust subcontracts aligned with main contract obligations
Commercial & Financial Management
- Interpret and advise on contract terms (JCT, NEC3/4)
- Oversee valuations, payments, variations, and final accounts
- Ensure all changes are properly managed, agreed, and documented
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks, handling disputes and claims where required
Performance & Compliance
- Monitor subcontractor performance against scope, programme, and quality
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and legal requirements
- Manage subcontract closeout, including defects and retention release
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in subcontract or contracts management within UK construction
- Strong working knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
- Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
Desirable:
- Experience on large-scale projects (£50m+)
- Professional membership (e.g. RICS or similar)
- Experience mentoring junior team members or leading small teams
