The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee the contractual and commercial aspects of façade projects. This includes cost planning, budgeting, procurement, valuations, reporting, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage project cost plans, budgets, cashflows, and final accounts.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and scope documents.
- Assess and price variations.
- Lead subcontractor and supplier procurement including enquiries, evaluation, negotiation, and contract preparation.
- Manage ongoing project cost control and commercial risks.
- Prepare interim valuations, commercial reports, and final accounts.
- Conduct site visits for measurement and progress evaluation.
- Liaise with internal teams, clients, and principal contractors.
- Maintain detailed commercial and contractual records.
Key Requirements
Education
- Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Candidates pursuing professional accreditation (RICS, CIOB) are welcome.
Experience
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator within the construction industry (subcontractor level preferred).
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Knowledge of cost planning, BOQs, and preliminaries.
- Site experience is beneficial.
Safety
- Commitment to health and safety standards on‑site and in‑office.
- Participation in toolbox talks and inductions where required.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Ability to interpret drawings, contracts (JCT/NEC), and technical specifications.
- Accurate measurement and take‑off capability.
Analytical Skills
- Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and support value engineering decisions.
Teamwork & Communication
- Effective communication with internal teams, subcontractors, and principal contractors.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and proactive work ethic.
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence.
- Familiarity with façade systems (cladding, curtain walling, rainscreen).
- Experience with subcontractor procurement.
