About the Role
Gleeds is working on a major UK infrastructure programme and is looking to appoint a Senior Cost Engineer to join a well-established and high-performing project controls team. This role offers the opportunity to step into a senior position within a complex, multi‑contract environment, where you’ll play a key part in managing and controlling costs across a large scale portfolio of work. The programme spans a diverse range of packages, from smaller works through to contracts valued in the hundreds of millions, all contributing to a wider multi‑billion‑pound delivery.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Managing cost planning and control across a portfolio of infrastructure contracts
- Supporting the transition from estimate through to procurement, ensuring budget alignment and cost certainty
- Reviewing and managing programme budgets, tracking against forecast spend
- Supporting supply chain engagement, including review of quotations and cost benchmarking
- Producing and maintaining clear, consistent cost reporting across multiple stakeholders
- Working closely with engineering, commercial, and project teams to drive cost accuracy
- Providing structured upward reporting to senior stakeholders and leadership teams
- Supporting the development and mentoring of junior team members, particularly within digital cost intelligence
- Ensuring consistency of messaging and data across a complex, multi-disciplinary environment
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong experience within major infrastructure, energy, or complex capital programmes
- Proven expertise in cost forecasting, budgeting, and procurement support
- Experience working across multiple stakeholders and disciplines, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex cost data into clear insights
- Experience operating at a senior level, supporting both delivery teams and leadership
- Exposure to digital cost tools and reporting platforms (e.g. Power BI, SQL) would be advantageous
- A collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice
- Ideally HNC, HND or Degree qualified in a Quantity Surveying / Cost Management, Construction Law, or similar / relevant discipline, or in some cases applicants with an alternative background (e.g.: Engineering) may be considered if there is significant on‑job experience
- Professional qualifications and/or membership of the RICS, CIOB, CICES, CIPS or other relevant Chartered Institute are desirable, and will be supported if not already attained
