Senior Mechanical Engineer – Leeds (Hybrid)

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work predominantly within the Water industry, with broader experience in utilities, infrastructure and industrial clients.

Job Overview

This is a consultant role; the post holder will be seconded to Aqua’s clients on an occasional or permanent basis, partly or fully.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute on feasibility, outline and detailed design projects.
  • Lead tendering and develop fee bids.
  • Manage design and coordinate multi‑discipline projects.
  • Conduct site visits as required.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, clients and suppliers.
  • Support junior engineers and provide mentoring.
  • Produce deliverables within time, cost, quality constraints.
  • Provide technical guidance and solutions on projects.
  • Develop and deliver innovative solutions for clients.
  • Check and review documents.
  • Identify smarter ways of working through new tools and techniques.
  • Maintain personal development and CPD.
  • Support Aqua’s Mission 25 goals for future growth.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the Water industry or wider utilities.
  • Knowledge of water and sewage treatment processes and related equipment/systems.
  • Participation in HAZOPS, SWIFTS, design reviews, etc.
  • Commercial awareness of client factors and impact on projects.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of projects from feasibility to detailed design.
  • Ability to produce calculations (e.g., hydraulic pump calculations, screens).
  • Produce schedules, documents, reports, drawings, datasheets.
  • Degree qualified in mechanical engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (within 6 months).
  • Prefer onsite experience.
  • CAD skills an advantage.
  • Knowledge of WIMES and other industry standards.
