Job Description:

The Training Programme Director in Dermatology (NW) will support the Head of School in the strategic development of the School of Medicine and lead the development of the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy. The post holder will also contribute to the operational programme and sit as a member of the School Board.

Main duties

The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty, ensuring effective educational outcomes, and driving whole‑workforce transformation and multi‑professional links.

Job responsibilities

  • Oversee the Specialty’s Regional Training Programme and ensure national standards and Royal College guidelines are met.
  • Address specialty–specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
  • Recruit, support and manage trainees, including assessments, progression, rotations, remediation and career development.
  • Handle graduate programme management, accessory work‑streams (e.g., OOP management, inter‑deanery transfers, academic training).
  • Support the Workforce Transformation agenda and the integration of educational and clinical objectives.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Consultant or Specialist Doctor in Dermatology, currently practising in the NW region as an NHS Consultant.
  • Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
  • Postgraduate education qualification such as a Certificate, Diploma or Master’s in Medical Education.

  • Experience working with doctors in an educational context.
  • Educational supervision and leadership in healthcare education.
  • Understood the Workforce Transformation agenda and recruitment processes.
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion experience within the last three years.
  • Clinical Manager experience and awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
  • Licence to practise for doctor applicants.

Secondment details

Applicants from within the NHS will be offered a secondment. Agreement should be obtained from their employer prior to submitting the application.
