Job Overview
Assystem is an independent nuclear engineering firm with over 60 years of experience. We are currently seeking an EC&I Responsible Engineer (RE) to work in Warrington. This role can be on staff or contract (Inside IR35).
Responsibilities
The RE is fully accountable for all electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) engineering within their area. The incumbent must ensure work is safe, compliant and fit for purpose across the full lifecycle, provide technical leadership, set standards, oversee assurance and retain responsibility for all engineering decisions.
Essential Experience
- Proven EC&I delivery in regulated, safety‑critical environments
- Strong technical accountability and decision‑making history
- Experience with PES, Cyber, Instrumentation and Electrical Distribution
- UK compliance (UKCA, LV, EMC, Machinery)
- Plant room design and engineering governance
- Leading multi‑disciplinary teams and resolving complex risks
- Working with projects, safety, regulators and assurance bodies
- Promoting safety, quality and compliance culture
Desirable Experience
- Experience as an RE or equivalent in nuclear/high‑hazard environments
- Full lifecycle delivery: concept to commissioning to handover
- Knowledge of SEMS and gated engineering processes
Essential Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation Engineering
- Extensive EC&I experience suitable for a Responsible Engineer role
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to meet security clearance and site access requirements
- SQEP compliant with SR0696 and ED21 standards
Desirable Qualifications
- Fellowship or senior membership of a professional engineering body
- Training in nuclear safety, functional safety or systems engineering
- Postgraduate qualification in engineering or management
