Job Summary
North Bristol NHS Trust – Emergency Department Housekeeper (Band 2). Closing date: 19 June 2026.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Emergency Department as a Housekeeper, playing a key role within our clinical teams. The role involves cleaning, catering and maintaining the environment of the ward.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Senior Sister in maintaining cleaning standards on the ward, including spot cleaning, cleaning of general and specialist equipment, keeping the ward safe and tidy, maintaining patient bed areas, and assisting in specialist cleaning of surfaces and furnishings.
- Provide catering support by encouraging and assisting patients with food ordering, serving meals and snacks, ensuring food hygiene, washing equipment, monitoring food intake, and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas.
- Maintain the environment by monitoring and auditing service delivery, completing the defect call log, coordinating maintenance, transporting and disposing of waste, monitoring access and security, and ensuring patient privacy and dignity during housekeeping duties.
- Handle general duties such as managing paper‑based records, responding to information requests, participating in staff training, understanding the Trust’s Complaints Procedure, and contributing to continuous improvement of services.
Qualifications and Skills
- Numeracy and literacy level 2 or equivalent.
- Basic IT skills: Word, e‑mail and keyboard usage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem‑solving ability and initiative.
- Ability to prioritise work, manage time effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake additional training and learning.
- Experience in time‑management and prioritising work.
- Desirable: Experience working in a health or social‑care setting.

- Contract: Permanent.
- Working pattern: Full‑time or part‑time (Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays).
