The opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will take ownership of underwriting complex and high‑value new business cases, driving profitable growth across our P&C portfolio. You’ll act as a trusted specialist, supporting broker relationships, contributing to strategic decisions, and helping shape underwriting best practice across the team.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the assessment, underwriting and pricing of new business opportunities within Property & Casualty, ensuring decisions support sustainable profitability.
- Analyse complex risk information and provide clear, well‑balanced underwriting recommendations.
- Develop and maintain strong, proactive relationships with brokers and clients, acting as a senior point of contact on technical queries.
- Contribute to portfolio management, market insights and underwriting strategy to support continual improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues across underwriting, pricing, claims and risk to ensure consistent and robust underwriting practices.
- Stay ahead of market trends, regulatory changes and emerging risks, sharing insights with the wider team.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters, helping build technical capability and confidence across the function.
Your skills & experience
- Significant experience in Property & Casualty underwriting, ideally with exposure to complex or large commercial risks.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret detailed data and make sound, informed decisions under pressure.
- Excellent market awareness and understanding of P&C insurance trends, regulations and competitor activity.
- Confident communicator able to influence stakeholders and build trusted relationships with brokers and clients.
- Skilled in using underwriting tools, systems and data to support decision making.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A collaborative, proactive approach with a commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes.
- Professional mindset, strong work ethic and a passion for continuous improvement.
