Purpose of the Role

Support the commercial delivery of a major build and structures project at Edinburgh Airport, managing all project costs, income, risk and supply chain engagement.

Working as part of the Regional Scotland commercial team, you will ensure value for money is achieved while maintaining the high standard of quality expected by our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Management & Governance

  • Manage all costs and income associated with your area of responsibility on the Edinburgh Airport project
  • Apply and adhere to all Balfour Beatty governance requirements including BMS and GMCEs
  • Use digital and commercial systems to track, measure and validate project performance
  • Measure, record and value work unsupervised using relevant rules and procedures
  • Prepare cost reconciliation statements, monthly valuations and commercial reports
  • Interpret specifications, works information and drawings accurately
  • Build up estimates from first principles

Contract & Stakeholder Management

  • Understand customer contract requirements and support contractual compliance
  • Engage professionally with external stakeholders, subcontractors and airport‑based partners
  • Support management of delay and disruption assessments

Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Collate information to develop procurement packages
  • Manage subcontract enquiries, comparisons and adjudications
  • Record procurement documentation and ensure compliance with internal processes
  • Support appointment and commercial management of subcontractors

Project Support

  • Review weekly and monthly programmes of work
  • Support the wider project team, including potential mentoring of Trainee / Assistant QS staff if appropriate

Interfaces

  • Internal: Commercial team, Project Delivery teams, Pre‑Construction, Procurement
  • External: Subcontractors, suppliers, designers, airport stakeholders, client representatives

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent knowledge)
  • Experience delivering building and structures projects (airport, commercial, or complex infrastructure desirable)
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and contract documents
  • CSCS Card – Academically Qualified / Professionally Qualified
  • Strong stakeholder skills and ability to communicate clearly in a live operational environment (airport setting)

Desirable

  • Experience within the aviation sector or secure/regulated sites
  • Knowledge of NEC or JCT forms of contract
  • Experience with digital estimating, measurement and cost‑management tools
