Associate Fire Engineer – Northern Ireland (Belfast, Derry, Any Location)

This position offers a defining career opportunity to help grow Joule Group’s NI Fire Engineering Team. You will hold technical and commercial ownership – shaping project delivery, growing the regional team, and driving business performance. The role requires visible, impactful leadership, combining office presence and regional travel with close collaboration across the wider business. You will work closely with and have full support from the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), central services, and operational leads across the UK, Ireland (UKI) and Middle East (ME), fostering integration, alignment, and shared success across regions.
The Role
This pivotal senior role blends technical leadership, operational oversight, commercial performance, and strategic growth. You will help lead Joule Group’s operations in Northern Ireland – shaping regional priorities, directing live project delivery, and elevating technical and commercial capability across the team. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and supporting the Group’s Growth & Development Director, you will drive strategic initiatives, contribute to work-winning, and ensure the region is fully integrated into the wider business.
You will be accountable for delivering high-quality outcomes across all projects, meeting agreed financial and operational targets and embedding a high-performance culture aligned with Joule Group’s policies, processes, and values. Strong communication will be essential, ensuring coordinated delivery, shared resourcing, and alignment with operational leads across the UKI and ME. As Project Lead on major and strategic assignments, you will ensure consistency, quality, and compliance in all technical deliverables. This role demands strong commercial acumen, deep technical knowledge of relevant fire safety codes, and the ability to mentor and grow a high-performing local team – offering a unique opportunity to help shape

Role Responsibilities
Operational & Project Leadership
- Support day-to-day regional operations, overseeing live project delivery across the NI Team.
- Act as Project Lead on major or strategic commissions.
- Ensure technical quality, compliance, and consistency across all projects and teams that you work with.
- Integrate with wider operational teams in UKI to align processes, share resource, and promote regional collaboration.
- Actively contribute to Group-wide resourcing and project mapping exercises, QA/QC reviews, project governance, and continual professional development forums.
Commercial Performance
- Support management of the regional P&L, including revenue, profitability, cashflow and forecasting.
- Contribute to monthly commercial and performance reports to the SLT.
- Collaborate with the SLT, UKI leads and central services to maintain a healthy secured pipeline, balanced workload, and consistent billing performance/
- Ensure accurate use of internal systems for forecasting, project tracking, and financial reporting.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for improved commercial performance through more efficient delivery models and shared resourcing.
People & Culture
- Help lead, mentor and support the NI team across all grades and functions.
- Support to ensure career development, reviews, and internal recognition frameworks are fully applied.
- Embed a culture aligned with Joule Group’s values: integrity, ownership, positivity, and excellence.
- Champion diversity, collaboration and inclusion across all aspects of team leadership.
- Engage closely with the SLT, UKI Ops/Management leads and HR to align policies and people practices.

Client & Market Development
- Act as a senior point of contact for UKI clients and partners.
- Represent Joule Group at technical forums, panels, and strategic client briefings.
- Lead the development of project proposals and commercial agreements, working closely with central commercial and bid support teams.
- Support Group-level business development efforts, including multi-region frameworks and enterprise clients.
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities, supporting Group expansion into aligned sectors and geographies.
Strategic Growth
- Support the development of the NI team – including recruitment, delivery structure, compliance, and pipeline activation.
- Actively contribute to the Group’s strategic planning and expansion efforts.
- Support alignment between Group strategy and regional market realities.
- Facilitate joined-up leadership and transparent decision-making across all regions.
Role Requirements
Essential Technical & Professional Expertise
- A relevant Master’s degree (MEng), or equivalent professional qualification.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or CEng application in process.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience and recent experience in a strategic level position.
- Experience in a client facing environment.
- Detailed knowledge of applying local fire safety codes, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to manage the full life cycle of fire & life safety engineering projects, including coordination of project teams, resources, schedules and deliverables.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team.
- Ability to set goals, drive performance, meet deadlines and adapt to change.
- Extensive experience of delivering fire engineering solutions for UK based projects.
- Good knowledge of fire engineering software packages.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite & Bluebeam.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills for client meetings.
Special Aptitudes & Circumstance
- Fluent in English.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Must be willing to travel based on the requirements of the role.
