Hours or shiftsStandard 40 Hours per week. 1 in 5 on call rota is required, with additional payment provided. Weekend and Bank Holiday working is not expected but may occasionally be requested where necessary to complete critical works.
About the role We are looking to recruit two experienced Service Engineers to join a growing service and maintenance team supporting security systems across utilities infrastructure sites. This Service Engineer role is ideal for candidates with experience working within the utilities and security sectors, particularly those familiar with gas and electric substation environments.
As a Service Engineer, you will work across a range of sites maintaining and supporting specialist perimeter protection and security systems including electric fencing, CCTV and access control technologies. Gallagher system knowledge would be highly advantageous for this Service Engineer position.
The successful Service Engineer will be capable of working independently on site, holding or working towards the relevant permits required for unsupervised access. During quieter maintenance periods, the Service Engineer will also support installation projects, helping to broaden technical knowledge and site familiarity.
This Service Engineer role includes participation in an on call rota, with remote system checks forming the first stage of response, making strong technical troubleshooting skills particularly valuable.
Key responsibilities
• Carry out service and maintenance activities across security systems on utilities infrastructure sites • Support maintenance of electric fencing, CCTV systems and associated perimeter protection technologies • Provide remote technical diagnostics as part of the on call support rota • Attend reactive call outs when required as part of the Service Engineer rota • Work safely on gas and electric substation sites in line with site permit requirements • Maintain strong compliance with utilities sector safety procedures and working practices • Support installation activities during quieter maintenance periods to strengthen technical capability • Work independently on approved sites once authorised and signed off • Maintain accurate service documentation and reporting
Skills and experience required
Essential
• Experience working as a Service Engineer within utilities, security systems or infrastructure environments • Experience working on gas and electric substation sites • Working knowledge of electric fencing, CCTV and security systems • Ability to work independently on operational infrastructure sites • Strong technical troubleshooting capability for remote diagnostics • Willingness to participate in a paid on call rota
Desirable
• Gallagher system experience • SCO 1 and SCO 2 permits • SCO 91 permit • SHEA Gas certification • Experience supporting both service and installation works across utilities environments
