The Opportunity

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor (MEP) to join our growing region and further develop their expertise within a strong, supportive team. In this role, you will be involved in commercial management of the South West & Wales region, monthly regional reporting, mentoring commercial team members, managing risk, supporting pre‑construction activities, and working closely with the Regional Operations Manager and senior commercial leadership.

This position will be split between the office and regional sites in line with our flexible working policy. As part of the Tilbury Douglas Engineering team, you will play a key role in the region’s continued growth, with excellent opportunities for long-term development and progression.

You will be responsible for the successful financial delivery of MEP projects, minimising the company’s exposure to financial risk, and ensuring full compliance with business commercial procedures. The role includes the commercial management of multiple projects and, where appropriate, junior surveyors.

You are likely to have a proven track record of MEP Services knowledge and have prior experience of MEP Services Quantity Surveying.

As TDE work on a number of healthcare, Education, Defence and Ministry of Justice Frameworks, specific MEP experience in some of these sectors is highly desirable.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Working closely with, reporting to, and implementing the directives of the Regional Director/Manager and Regional Commercial Manager.
  • Ensuring the timely submission of all data required for monitoring and analysing project performance.
  • Management of regional monthly commercial reporting processes / CVR.
  • Liaising with Contracts Managers and Surveyors on day‑to‑day commercial administration to safeguard the financial success of MEP projects.
  • Visiting projects to undertake project reviews and provide guidance to the teams.
  • Undertake risk management reviews, identify and classify project and business risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Providing line management and guidance to commercial team members.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior commercial staff with their project delivery and professional development.
  • Vetting and negotiation of head contract and subcontract terms and conditions in line with company governance.
  • Providing commercial support and guidance to the pre‑construction team during the bid / tendering process, including t&c’s, risk & opportunity, scope, clarifications and price.
  • Supporting the administration and performance management of sub‑contractors to secure timely, economic completion of their obligations.
  • Contributing to dispute avoidance and resolution processes.
  • Leading and managing meetings as required.

What We Need from You

  • Strong and comprehensive understanding of the MEP Services and Construction industry and its key stakeholders.
  • Proficient knowledge of measurement, valuation, and standard forms of contract.
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications, with solid knowledge of construction and MEP processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills for client, main contractor and sub‑contractor interactions.
  • Ability to produce accurate monthly cost/value reports and reliable outturn financial forecasts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Cost Reporting Systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities.
  • Professional membership (e.g. RICS) is desirable but not expressly required.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to change.
  • Exhibit balanced leadership and management skills.
  • Capable of operating as part of a team.
  • Prepared to undertake reasonable travel applicable to the role.
