Job Description:

Data is only powerful when it’s trusted, structured, and used properly. This is a pivotal role within a major transport organisation, giving you the opportunity to shape how data supports operational performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategy across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing and delivering an enterprise-wide data strategy aligned to business and regulatory priorities
  • Building and leading a growing data function (up to three Data Engineers / BI Analysts)
  • Establishing strong data governance, ownership, standards and quality frameworks
  • Defining and evolving the organisation’s target data architecture, including warehousing, modelling and integration
  • Overseeing data engineering pipelines and reporting capabilities through internal teams and delivery partners
  • Driving high standards of data integrity, security and compliance (including GDPR and data protection requirements)
  • Leading procurement and managing external partners to implement scalable data solutions
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across IT and the wider business to deliver accurate, timely insights
  • Implementing appropriate platforms for data management, analytics and visualisation
  • Embedding continuous improvement through audits, quality metrics and process optimisation

Main Skills Needed:

  • Proven experience building and operating enterprise data management capabilities
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, engineering, master data and analytics
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft data platforms including Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Power Platform
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers and delivery partners
  • Background in regulated, asset-heavy or safety-led environments (transport experience advantageous)
  • Strong grasp of data compliance, security and governance frameworks
  • Confident communicator able to translate complex data concepts for senior and non-technical stakeholders
  • Degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience); professional certifications beneficial
