Research / Product Development Scientist: Nanotechnology (London Biotech Start-up)
I am currently working exclusively with a London based biotech who have developed advanced instrumentation to analyse nanoparticles at the single particle level. With their platform already being used across leading academic and industry labs in Europe and North America, supporting work in areas like drug delivery and nano-formulations, and emerging therapeutic approaches.
As adoption grows, my client is looking for a scientist who can bridge research, product development, and real-world application.
The Role: This is not a pure lab role.
You’ll develop deep expertise in the technology, then apply it working across R&D, product development, and external collaborations. You’ll help shape how the technology is used, improve how it performs, and support users in getting meaningful results. You’ll be working closely with engineers, applications specialists, and external partners so the ability to translate complex science into practical use matters just as much as technical depth.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing expertise in single particle nanoparticle analysis
- Supporting product development and improving how the technology is used
- Creating and refining SOPs for new and existing applications
- Collaborating with engineering and applications teams to improve user experience
- Managing and contributing to external research collaborations
- Presenting work through meetings, seminars, and technical discussions
What They’re Looking For
- MSc or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or similar
- Experience in nanoparticle or nanoformulation characterisation and/or spectroscopy (Raman, IR or related techniques)
- Strong problem solving mindset and technical curiosity
- Ability to work across disciplines (science + engineering + users)
- Clear communicator able to explain complex concepts simply
Nice to Have (Not Essential)
- Experience with LNPs, exosomes, extracellular vesicles, or viral vectors
- Experience in nanoformulation or nanoparticle manufacturing
- Broader experience with spectroscopy, microscopy, or analytical techniques
Environment
- London based biotech start up (lab + office)
- Highly collaborative, cross functional team
- Mix of research, product development, and user interaction
- Opportunity to directly influence how a new technology is adopted
Additional Info
- 4 days per week on site (London)
- Right to work in the UK required
- Equal opportunity employer
