Clinical Support Worker – Metastatic Breast Care (Fixed Term/Secondment)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our well‑established Specialist Breast Care Nursing Service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, working closely with the newly appointed Metastatic Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). This is a new role funded for 18 months, offered as a fixed‑term contract or internal secondment. The position is full‑time.
Role Overview
The post holder will work as part of the Breast Care CNS team, supporting the Metastatic Breast CNS and collaborating closely with the wider oncology team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of holistic care through completion of holistic needs assessments (HNAs).
- Communicate effectively with patients face‑to‑face and by telephone, providing support and guidance to promote a seamless patient journey.
- Maintain accurate patient tracking using databases to support pathway coordination.
- Provide tailored support to patients on a metastatic pathway.
- Liaise effectively with a wide range of professionals.
- Monitor and track patient results, including blood tests and imaging, ensuring timely and sensitive communication to patients.
- Contribute to continuity of care by supporting patients across transitions in their treatment and care pathways.
Ideal Candidate
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good IT skills for database tracking and patient management, and ideally has previous experience working with cancer patients (desirable but not essential).
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to A-level, NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and or Social Care.
- Continued professional development.
- Computer literacy e.g. ECDL (desirable).
Experience
- Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
- Customer care experience.
- Knowledge of patient needs when being treated / cared for in a healthcare setting.
- Accurate data entry, typing and checking skills.
- Ability to produce letters / reports using Word and Excel.
- Understanding own limitations and ability to seek advice and support.
- Understanding the physical and psychological needs of a patient.
- Knowledge of personalised care initiatives in cancer.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience with full range of IT systems and patient data systems.
- Experience working with patients with cancer (essential).

Pay Scheme
Agenda for Change – Band 4 – Salary £28,392.00 to £31,157.00 yearly.
