Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a background in commercial sales or the building services sector to drive new business opportunities and expand our commercial client base. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a business development or sales-focused role and be confident generating new opportunities within a service-based or trade-related industry.

This position is responsible for identifying and engaging prospective commercial clients, building strong relationships with local businesses, and generating qualified leads for the company’s plumbing and heating services. The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Managing Director to introduce new opportunities, support revenue growth, and strengthen GasWise’s presence across Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas. This role is 100% sales focused; you will not be required to quote or manage service delivery.

The successful candidate will combine strong relationship-building skills with a proactive approach to sales and networking, enabling them to create opportunities through outreach, local engagement, and professional networking. Experience working in target-driven environments, developing new client relationships and securing leads is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and proactively target new commercial prospects within Banbury and the surrounding areas, researching potential businesses that may benefit from their services.
  • Generate new business opportunities through a mix of outbound prospecting methods including phone calls, personalised email outreach, LinkedIn networking, and in-person visits.
  • Build and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified commercial leads by engaging with business owners, facilities managers, and other key decision-makers.
  • Arrange and coordinate introductory meetings between qualified prospects and the Managing Director, ensuring smooth and professional handovers.
  • Conduct initial discovery conversations with prospective clients to understand their current energy arrangements, business needs, and potential opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and organised records of prospect interactions, outreach activity, and lead status within the company CRM or lead tracking system.
  • Follow up consistently with potential clients to nurture relationships and keep opportunities moving through the sales pipeline.
  • Attend weekly office meetings to review pipeline progress, discuss opportunities, and align with the wider commercial strategy.
  • Accompany the Managing Director on occasional introductory site visits where required, helping facilitate introductions and supporting relationship development.
  • Represent the business with professionalism and integrity at all times when engaging with prospects, partners, and local businesses.
  • Develop strong, long-term professional relationships with commercial decision-makers to build trust and create future opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on outreach performance, prospect engagement, and new business activity to support ongoing business development strategy.
  • Stay informed about their services, commercial energy markets, and competitor activity to communicate value confidently to prospects.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sales, particularly selling services rather than products, with a strong track record of developing new relationships and acquiring new clients.
  • Experience in B2B sales environments.
  • Confident, proactive, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build and nurture professional relationships.
  • Highly organised with excellent time management and the ability to manage multiple opportunities effectively.
  • Professional and customer-focused approach when representing the business.
  • This is a full-time role with an expectation of working both from our Banbury office and meeting clients in the surrounding area. Candidates must have access to their own vehicle and be willing to travel regularly.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working within the trades, facilities management, building services, or similar service-based industries would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Experience using Commusoft or similar CRM/service management systems.
  • Local knowledge of the Banbury area and surrounding business community.
  • Previous experience organising, tracking, and managing sales leads independently.
  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products (including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Competitive Salary (we believe in offering fair and competitive wages based on experience and the right attitude to succeed and exceed in the business)
  • 21 days holiday + statutory bank holidays.
  • Travel expenses covered for use of own vehicle.
