About the Company
Yellowstone Biosciences is a biotechnology spinout based in Oxford, focused on pioneering next-generation cancer treatments using advanced T-cell engaging therapies. Our work builds on groundbreaking research from the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford, translating cutting-edge science into innovative therapeutics with real clinical impact.
About the Role
We are recruiting to two roles (Scientists / Senior Scientist) to work within our Protein Science team to provide essential hands-on support to accelerate our pipeline of novel therapeutics.
You will take responsibility for maintaining and optimising our protein expression platforms (mammalian and microbial) ensuring the reliable delivery of high-quality proteins to support discovery and development programs.
To be considered you should have a strong background in molecular biology, protein purification, characterisation and affinity measurements.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to therapeutic innovation while gaining broad experience across protein design, expression and characterisation in a dynamic, collaborative biotech environment
Responsibilities
- Perform recombinant protein expression in mammalian systems
- Maintain and expand cell cultures in preparation for transfection
- Conduct transient transfections and generate stable cell lines
- Purify proteins using Bench and FPLC methods
- Characterise proteins using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and DSF
- Perform protein binding and affinity assays (e.g. SPR, BLI, ELISA)
- Design and clone expression constructs using molecular biology techniques
- Contribute to optimisation and continuous improvement of expression workflows
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent experience) in Biochemistry or a related subject
Required Skills
- Strong experience in mammalian cell culture with excellent aseptic technique
- Solid understanding of protein production workflows and optimisation strategies
- Proven experience in molecular cloning
- Hands-on experience with ÄKTA FPLC, including method development and optimisation
- High levels of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail
- Strong communication and record-keeping skills
- Flexible, proactive mindset with willingness to learn new techniques
- Commitment to working in accordance with health and safety and laboratory best practices
- Experience with relevant software (e.g. SnapGene, Benchling)
Preferred Skills
- Experience with TCR and pHLA protein production
- Familiarity with protein refolding techniques
- Experience in biophysical characterisation (SPR and/or BLI)
- ELISA development and optimisation
- Thermal shift assays
We particularly welcome applications from candidates who are available immediately or have short notice periods.
