Client Description

Verity is in her mid‑40s and lives independently in her own home with the support of a dedicated team of Support Workers who provide 24‑hour care. She has an acquired brain injury and is looking for caring, reliable individuals to join her team. Verity is excited to welcome new people who can assist with her daily needs and help her continue living life to the fullest.

Verity is a vibrant individual with a great sense of humour who enjoys social activities such as quizzes, watching TV and films, and planning for special occasions like Christmas and birthdays. She loves going out to the cinema, theatre, and shopping, and has her own wheelchair‑accessible vehicle for outings. Whilst Verity does not communicate verbally, she expresses her needs and feelings through body language and facial expressions. Her family and support team play an important role in interpreting these cues to ensure her comfort and wellbeing. Verity is registered blind, so her care team describes her surroundings and activities to keep her fully engaged. She requires continuous support and supervision throughout the day, as well as overnight care to ensure her comfort and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful and compassionate personal care, supporting Verity with her daily routines.
  • Assist with PEG feeding and medication administration, ensuring comfort and safety at all times.
  • Deliver catheter care and maintain skin integrity through effective pressure care.
  • Provide respiratory support, including suctioning when required, in a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Support Verity in enjoying her hobbies and social activities, both at home and in the community.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively, ensuring Verity feels understood, valued, and respected.
  • Assist with moving and handling, including safe use of hoisting equipment (full training provided).

Safeguarding

ILS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our clients within the activities we undertake, and ILS expects all our clients’ employees and workers to share this commitment.

Suitability of all prospective employees or workers will be assessed during recruitment in line with this commitment. This position will require:

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Satisfactory references, including from your most recent employer
  • Enhanced DBS check (A conviction will not necessarily prevent employment)

Equality

Where a specific gender is stated as essential, gender is considered a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and encourage applications from individuals of all ages, disabilities, gender reassignment, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, marriage and civil partnerships, and religion and belief.

About You

For waking night support on a bank basis, previous experience is essential. Candidates must be confident and competent in:

  • Administering medication
  • Suctioning and respiratory support
  • PEG feeding
  • Catheter care
  • Repositioning and pressure care
  • Using hoisting equipment
  • Recording and reporting observations accurately

You will be expected to work independently overnight, responding to Verity’s needs but will have support from the sleeping night worker if required.

For day and sleeping night shifts, while previous experience can be helpful, it is not essential. What matters most is willingness to learn and carry out your role with enthusiasm, warmth, and respect. Full training will be provided to ensure you feel confident and competent in tasks such as:

  • Using specialist equipment (hoists, PEG feeding systems, suctioning devices, respiratory care equipment)
  • Supporting Verity with personal care and daily routines
  • Communicating effectively using non‑verbal cues

Working in Verity’s own home, you should be comfortable and sensitive to her needs and those of her family, including a small dog that sleeps in the carer’s room. Strong organisational skills, punctuality, patience, and reliability are essential.
