About the Role
A fast-growing medical technology company in the surgical devices space is establishing its first commercial leadership presence in the UK. We are seeking a high-impact Sales / Commercial Director to build and lead market entry, drive early revenue growth, and establish long-term clinical and commercial partnerships. This is a foundational hire with full ownership of the UK go-to-market strategy, execution, and scaling.
Key Responsibilities
Market Entry & Commercial Strategy
- Lead the UK market entry strategy and execution from the ground up
- Define and implement sales strategy across NHS and private hospital systems
- Build pipeline, convert early adopters, and establish scalable commercial channels
Sales Leadership & Revenue Growth
- Drive direct sales of surgical devices and related solutions
- Own revenue targets and end-to-end deal execution
- Develop strong relationships with procurement teams, hospital groups, and decision-makers
Clinical & KOL Engagement
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in surgery and interventional specialties
- Work closely with clinical stakeholders to support product adoption and training programs
- Identify and develop clinical champions across leading NHS trusts and academic hospitals
Market Access & Stakeholder Navigation
- Navigate NHS procurement pathways, tenders, and hospital purchasing processes
- Engage with clinical, economic, and administrative stakeholders to accelerate adoption
- Provide market insights to inform global commercial and product strategy
Team & Ecosystem Building
- Lay the foundation for future UK commercial team expansion
- Build distributor / partner strategy where relevant
- Represent the company at conferences, clinical meetings, and industry events
Requirements
- Proven experience in surgical devices sales / medical device commercial leadership
- Strong understanding of the UK healthcare system (NHS structure, procurement, reimbursement pathways)
- Established network with surgeons, hospitals, and KOLs in relevant surgical fields
- Track record of delivering strong sales performance in complex clinical environments
- Ability to operate independently in a first-in-country / greenfield market setup
- Experience with robotic surgery systems or advanced minimally invasive surgical technologies
- Prior exposure to launch-stage or early market-entry medical device companies
- Mandarin language skills (beneficial but not essential)
