Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Road Marking Operative role based in Manchester. The Road Marking Operative will prepare road surfaces, set out work areas, and apply road markings, studs, and related materials in line with project specifications and safety standards. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining road marking equipment, handling materials safely, and assisting with traffic management measures such as cones and signage. The role also involves carrying out routine checks on vehicles and machinery, completing basic site paperwork or digital records, and reporting any defects or issues to supervisors. The operative will work as part of a site team, follow health and safety procedures, and may be required to work varied hours, including nights or weekends, depending on project needs.
Qualifications
- Practical skills in road marking operations, including surface preparation, line marking, and stud application.
- Ability to operate and carry out basic maintenance on road marking machinery, small plant, and associated tools.
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices, including safe manual handling, PPE use, and working near live traffic.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively on-site.
- Good attention to detail and ability to work accurately to drawings, measurements, and specifications.
- Full, clean UK driving licence; entitlement to drive commercial vehicles is an advantage.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CSCS card, NVQ or equivalent in highways/roadwork, traffic management qualifications) are beneficial.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when required.
- Previous experience in road marking, surfacing, or civil engineering is preferred but applicants with relevant transferable skills will be considered.
