Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist to join our team of cardiothoracic anesthetists and intensivists at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). The role will be based primarily at Wythenshawe Hospital with the possibility of working across other MFT sites. The successful candidate will work within the Greater Manchester tertiary cardiothoracic service, undertaking a broad spectrum of clinical activity and participating in quality improvement projects, audit and research.
Key Duties
The consultative team is part of the Directorate of Anaesthesia and Critical Care and will be expected to:
- Provide high‑level cardiothoracic anaesthetic care across the MFT group
- Participate in multidisciplinary perioperative and critical care teams
- Lead or contribute to clinical audits and research projects within the trust
- Deliver teaching to medical students, junior doctors and allied clinical staff
- Contribute to the development of service pathways and clinical protocols
Qualifications & Training
- MBChB or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent (e.g., FRCA, FFICM)
- Completion of higher training in Anaesthesia on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview
- Full registration with the GMC (or eligibility for full registration)
- Intermediate Accreditation in ICU Medicine
- TOE Accreditation
- Experience in major aortic surgery, heart/lung transplant and mechanical support including VV ECMO
- Postgraduate Research Degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Teaching and Audit Experience
- Teaching medical students and junior medical staff
- Experience of audit and improvement projects
- Publication in a peer‑reviewed journal, or a demonstrable commitment to research within the Trust or a record of improving patient safety in previous organisations
Other Requirements
- Registered on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for relevant CCT or equivalent within 6 months of interview, confirmed in writing by the GMC/PMETB by the day of interview

Salary
£113,565 to £150,569 per annum, pro‑rata
