The Role

Bolton Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Housing Standards team as a Project Support Officer. The role is central to supporting the work of the team in meeting statutory and non‑statutory obligations across the full range of the team’s activities, supporting the manager and enforcement officers in developing and implementing projects associated with the delivery of quality housing provision in the borough, particularly in the privately rented sector.

Responsibilities

  • Assist by conducting compliance visits under the guidance of an enforcement officer.
  • Undertake accommodation inspections for immigration purposes.
  • Support initiatives to increase housing provision.
  • Assist with statutory nuisance investigations.
  • Conduct sampling when necessary.
  • Respond to queries from customers and other stakeholders.
  • Perform a mixture of onsite visits and office‑based administration, with elements of hybrid working after probation.

About You

We are looking for an individual with great interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, self‑motivated and able to work as part of a team, but also on your own initiative. You should be able to adapt your communication style to suit a range of situations, from consultations with internal stakeholders to challenging conversations with people in the community. You’ll thrive in a fast‑paced and varied environment, where you will need to prioritise tasks to meet conflicting demands. Your work will be organised, diligent, with good attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have experience in dealing with housing and/or public health matters, particularly linked to the private rented sector, but we also encourage applications from candidates who have relevant transferable skills as full training will be provided.
