Job Description:

Involved in the preparation and service of patients areas, including bedded areas, wards, departments, clinics, theatres or any other non‑occupied areas. Required to undertake a wide range of deliveries and monitoring duties associated with maintaining a high standard of service and ensuring a timely service provision at all times, maintaining trust values.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and sort all foul linen from wards and departments.
  • Wash all linen in appropriate machines as per instructions for each specific type.
  • Dry all washed linen in appropriate machines.
  • Press, fold and pack all linen using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate as part of a team when directed by a Team Leader/Supervisor.
  • Keep floors and equipment clean at all times, regularly sweeping floors and removing lint from machines.
  • Report any faults in equipment to the Team Leader/Supervisor.
  • Maintain personal conduct and hygiene to the highest standard while on the hospital premises.
  • Notify supervisor or relevant staff of faulty equipment, building or equipment repairs, maintenance requirements, and requests for personal protective equipment or light equipment.
  • Prepare and deliver stock to wards, top up as required, and record what has been issued.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent; general understanding of the importance of cleanliness in a patient/healthcare environment.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and equipment relevant to the post.
  • Ability to operate mechanical and electrical machinery safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety policies and work procedures.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control policy, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills, including non‑verbal communication.
  • Capability to respond constructively to unpredictable situations.
  • Good customer care skills.
  • Prioritisation skills, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Access to vulnerable people in the course of duties requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • Completion of DBS and safeguarding training.
