We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join the Acceptance & Commissioning (A&C) team, supporting the delivery of major capital projects across a diverse portfolio of engineering programmes. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work on complex projects within a highly regulated environment, supporting engineering activities from design through to testing, commissioning, acceptance and operational handover. You will work closely with project teams, contractors and operational stakeholders to ensure systems and plant modifications are delivered safely, compliantly and fit for purpose.

While experience within the nuclear sector is advantageous, we welcome applications from candidates with commissioning experience gained in other highly regulated industries including pharmaceutical, chemical processing, energy, utilities, oil & gas, aerospace and defence.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Commissioning Project Engineer, you will support the safe and successful delivery of projects through effective planning, coordination and execution of commissioning and acceptance activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing high-quality commissioning documentation, including Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), commissioning plans and handover documentation.
  • Reviewing and providing technical assurance of commissioning deliverables produced by contractors and project teams.
  • Planning, coordinating and overseeing commissioning activities across multiple projects and engineering disciplines.
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier facilities and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) on site.
  • Managing commissioning hold points, test records, observations and reservation lists where required.
  • Assessing commissioning results and ensuring systems meet project requirements prior to handover.
  • Supporting operational readiness and the successful transfer of assets to Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Providing technical support and problem‑solving during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues encountered during project delivery.
  • Supporting engineering reviews, design assessments and constructability considerations where required.
  • Monitoring contractor commissioning activities to ensure compliance with specifications, project requirements and company procedures.
  • Supporting lessons learned activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining accurate commissioning records and ensuring documentation is completed and archived appropriately.

Key Accountabilities

Commissioning Delivery

  • Ensure commissioning activities are planned and executed safely and effectively.
  • Verify that systems and equipment perform as intended through structured testing and validation.
  • Support successful project handover through completion of commissioning and acceptance activities.
  • Ensure all commissioning records and documentation are completed to the required standard.

Contractor and Supplier Management

  • Act as an intelligent customer for externally delivered commissioning activities.
  • Review contractor commissioning plans, test documentation and deliverables.
  • Provide technical challenge and assurance to ensure quality and compliance requirements are achieved.
  • Support FATs, inspections and acceptance activities with suppliers and contractors.

Engineering Support

  • Provide commissioning input throughout the project lifecycle, including design reviews and implementation activities.
  • Support fault‑finding, troubleshooting and technical investigations.
  • Contribute practical operational and commissioning expertise to project teams.

Continuous Professional Development

  • Maintain and develop technical competence through ongoing professional development.
  • Expand knowledge of engineering systems, commissioning methodologies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development and sharing of commissioning best practice across projects.
