Roofer
Annual salary: up to £35,000.00. Contract Start Date: 1 July 2026. Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent, 42.5hrs per week, Monday to Friday. Salary: £35,000 + company van and fuel card, with additional opportunities for overtime. There is also an optional out-of-hours call rota, providing the chance to further enhance your overall earnings.
About the Role
Mears Group is delivering a long‑term social housing repairs and maintenance partnership across the wider Midlands region. Your role as a roofer will involve maintaining the safety and integrity of homes through a range of repairs and maintenance activities on both occupied and void properties.
Responsibilities
- Carry out roofing repairs and maintenance on occupied and void properties.
- Repair and replace roof tiles, battens, felt roofing, flat roofs, and asphalt systems.
- Complete chimney repairs, lead work, and installation of ridge, verge, and hip tiles.
- Repair and maintain guttering, downpipes, fascias, soffits, and barge boards.
- Install and repair roof insulation, ventilation systems, rooflights, and skylights.
- Attend emergency call‑outs to make properties safe following leaks or storm damage.
- Identify roofing defects and recommend remedial works.
- Work with reclaimed roofing materials where appropriate.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, to a high standard, and in line with regulatory requirements including the Decent Homes Standard.
- Accurately record materials used and time spent on jobs.
- Liaise with tenants, supervisors, and site teams to minimise disruption and maintain clear communication.
- Support planned maintenance and refurbishment programmes.
Qualifications
- Previous experience carrying out domestic roofing repairs and maintenance works.
- Experience working on both occupied and void properties.
- Good knowledge of pitched and flat roofing systems, including felt and asphalt roofing.
- Experience completing lead work, chimney repairs, and roofline installations.
- Ability to identify roofing defects and recommend appropriate remedial works.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations within a repairs and maintenance environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work professionally with tenants, colleagues, and site teams.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and maintain accurate job records.
- Full UK driving licence.
