PSV/HGV Mechanical Fitter

About the Role

Our client is seeking experienced PSV/HGV Mechanical Fitters to join their engineering team based in Chelmsford. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, reliable, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs and servicing
• Identify the correct repair methods and required parts
• Perform routine maintenance and vehicle safety inspections
• Use diagnostic equipment and handheld data capture devices where applicable
• Attend roadside breakdowns and assist with vehicle recovery when required
• Carry out road testing to validate repairs and identify any further issues

About You

• NVQ Level 3 / SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance (essential)
• PSV or HGV experience preferred, but not essential
• Applications welcomed from ex-Forces personnel or engineers from other sectors
• Full UK driving licence required
• PCV licence desirable (training can be provided)
• Flexible and reliable with the ability to work shifts and weekends
• Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills

Working Hours

• 4 days out of 7 (including weekends)
• Rotating shifts:

Early: 05:00 – 15:00

Late: 14:30 – 00:30
