Large Loss Technician

Location: Leicester, London or Bexhill (all hybrid)

Role Overview

We’re seeking experienced Large Loss Technicians to manage a portfolio of significant bodily injury claims (up to a value of £250k) within our Bodily Injury department. The role involves technical decision‑making, stakeholder engagement, and coaching to strengthen our claims capability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own portfolio of complex motor personal injury claims, typically valued up to £250k, working within agreed authority levels and business defined criteria.
  • Engage and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders to drive efficient and fair claim resolution, including customers, witnesses, insurers, solicitors, repairers, engineers, forensic accountants, investigators, medical agencies and police authorities.
  • Support colleagues through technical coaching and guidance and act as a technical referral point, providing mentoring and training.
  • Conduct technical audits as required, accurately record findings and highlight emerging trends or knowledge gaps.
  • Identify and prevent fraudulent activity, ensuring claims are handled with diligence and integrity.
  • Participate in strategic projects aimed at enhancing our technical capability and keeping the unit ahead of industry trends and best practice.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience handling high‑value motor bodily injury claims, usually over £150k‑250k.
  • Sound technical knowledge of motor injury claims, including liability, causation, quantum assessment, rehabilitation and litigation strategy.
  • Understanding of legal frameworks such as the CPR, case law developments, Ogden principles and claims cost management.
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching others as a technical referral point or in capability development.
  • Experience working with external suppliers such as solicitors, counsel and medical experts.
  • Strong analytical capability, able to identify trends and maintain good computer literacy.
