Job overview

This is a key role within the Business Intelligence team, supporting senior stakeholders to make informed decisions through the delivery of high-quality, timely data and insight.

You will play a significant role in transforming complex data into meaningful information that supports operational performance and strategic planning across the organisation.

As part of a collaborative and forward-thinking BI team, you will be supported to develop your technical expertise, leadership capability, and experience in advanced analytics and AI-enabled solutions.

Main duties of the job

The Business Intelligence Unit provides accurate, timely, and meaningful data to support operational performance and strategic decision-making across Newham University Hospital.

The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality analysis and insight relating to NHS Constitutional Standards (including RTT, A&E, Cancer and Diagnostics), while also supporting wider organisational objectives.

The role focuses on transforming complex data into actionable intelligence, improving reporting, and driving innovation through the effective use of analytical tools and data sources.

The post holder will also be responsible for providing external and internal customers business intelligence reports designed to support and deliver the sites objectives. The post holder will be responsible for improving and innovating reports to fully exploit data rich clinical systems and providing interpretive analytics and commentary.

  • Educated to at least degree level or equivalent experience

  • Significant experience working within Healthcare Informatics environment.
  • Experience of NHS acute Trust computer/information systems (Data warehouse, PAS).
  • Experience of activity modelling, waiting list profiling and capacity planning.
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS data dictionary and its application.
  • Ability to write detailed analytic queries in SQL, investigate and resolve complex queries, issues and problems.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience in acute RTT/A&E/Cancer/Diagnostics Reporting
  • Experience in the use of Business Intelligence tools for reporting, e.g. QlikSense, Power BI, Business Objects, SSRS, etc
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilise statistical reporting solutions such as `R` and automation solutions such as Python and Power Automate
  • Advanced level knowledge of MS Office, to include MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
