Job Description

Lead Technical Architect – Data & Analytics (D&A) – DWP Digital. The role involves designing, delivering and evolving the data platforms that unlock insight for services used by millions across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture for data products and services within the Data Enablement Layer, collaborating with engineers, product teams and other architects to deliver solutions that meet user needs and DWP standards.
  • Drive architectural coherence across the entire D&A landscape – ingestion, storage, processing and consumption – ensuring all layers work together seamlessly.
  • Identify technology gaps, enforce consistency in patterns and technologies, and maintain alignment with cross‑government data standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentor team members and coach peers, fostering capability across the architecture team.
  • Represent data architecture at senior stakeholder level, influencing strategic direction and decision‑making.
  • Support delivery teams to adopt best practice and emerging technologies, while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and user‑centric.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience integrating data from diverse sources, including real‑time and batch processing.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT tools and how data is extracted, transformed and loaded into platforms.
  • Expertise in data warehousing, data lakes, reporting and analytics tools and how they interrelate.
  • Ability to design architecture across cloud, on‑premises and hybrid environments, considering security, networking and integration.
  • Experience applying architecture principles, standards and reusable design patterns.
  • Track record of working with delivery teams across the full lifecycle – from early design through to live services.
  • Skill in turning business needs into clear, structured technical designs that stakeholders understand.
  • Proficiency in creating architecture models or diagrams to explain and shape solutions.
