Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced podiatrist to support our local Penge primary care network. The role will include 20% community podiatry clinical caseload, and 80% GP practice working in order to meet requirements of Penge primary care network. First contact practitioner qualification will be essential for this role.

The prospective candidate must have broad experience in varying fields of podiatry, and take a holistic approach when assessing new patients in order to signpost appropriately.The successful candidate will see varied foot conditions, be able to expertly advice and signpost (with a responsibility to provide foot and ankle diagnosis), network and liaise with GP surgery staff with an MDT approach, and provide best practice care with outstanding outcomes for our patients. You will travel across the network and work within different GP surgeries for the majority of this role, with some direct podiatry intervention opportunity alongside the community podiatry service. Professional interdisciplinary networking with services such as Vita health, KCH orthopaedics, childrens physiotherapy services will be mandatory.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for HCPC Registered Podiatrists with post graduate experience, with a high degree of motivation and clinical skills. The successful candidate will be required to have excellent diagnostic and clinical skills and able to provide patient and staff education, as well as correctly signpost to support services.The post holder will be an expert in their field, and will provide education not only for patients, but for other clinical staff. You will be expected to work alongside multiple GP surgery staff, and coordinate best patient care, share knowledge with the wider team and present case discussion and research at team and MDT meetings.

You will maintain best practice and demonstrate Bromley Healthcare values in your day to day role working as part of a team. We value healthcare promotion through patient empowerment and education, therefore we require podiatrists who have excellent communication and assessment skills.

We encourage team members to take part in various CPD activities including clinical supervision, in-house training during department meetings in addition to external training sessions. There may be opportunities for further training if identified as appropriate by the primary care network.

Experience

  • Post graduate experience of treating a high-risk caseload including a wound care caseload and a willingness to undertake post graduate training and education in specialist area’s of podiatry e.g diabetes
  • Post graduate experience of full patient assessment (medical history, vascular, neuropathic etc) and formulating diagnosis & treatment plans.
  • Post graduate experience in: – Minor surgical procedures. – Biomechanics including diagnosis, fabrication, prescription and evaluation of orthoses and formulating treatment plans, muscle balancing programmes
  • Local analgesia injection including calculating maximum safe doses and detecting contraindications to use.
  • Post graduate experience of treating a high risk caseload including people with diabetic and ischaemic foot ulceration
  • Involvement in Health Education
  • Evidence of working within Specialist area’s of Podiatry e.g. Podiatric Surgery, Diabetes, R.A etc.
  • Training in clinical coaching
  • Experience in administering steroid injections

Skills

  • Ability to diagnose, construct, document, implement and evaluate care plans using a holistic approach
  • To demonstrate good organisational skills in managing own caseload with a proportion of high risk patients.
  • Good verbal and written Communication skills in order to deal with people of all age groups in clinical situations and also other health care professionals
  • Demonstrate ability to use specialist diagnostic & therapeutic equipment e.g., doppler ultrasound, neurosthesiometer, gait analysis systems
  • Hand eye co-ordination, dexterity, manipulation, keyboard activity
  • Full UK’s Driver’s Licence & Access to a car for work purposes.

  • Advanced MSK diagnostic skills (e.g. advanced assessment techniques, sonography)

  • Podiatry Diploma/ Degree
  • Commitment to continuous development of clinical skills and professional knowledge.
  • Awareness of current changes within the NHS.
  • IRMER certificate
  • POMs certificate
  • Evidence of CPD portfolio demonstrating knowledge base
  • PGCert/Dip or MSc
