Commercial Underwriter – Multiple Opportunities (Birmingham & West Midlands)

A well-established UK insurer is expanding its Commercial and Corporate Underwriting division, driven by sustained growth and strong financial performance. Opportunities are available across a range of levels, from desk-based underwriters through to senior trading and new business specialists.

The Opportunity

• Underwrite commercial combined or property & casualty risks with a focus on profitability and disciplined growth
• Roles available across:
• Desk-based renewals underwriting
• Trading underwriters handling broker relationships
• Senior new business and portfolio-focused positions
• Engage with a network of strategic broker partners to retain and win business
• Operate within specialist and niche areas where the business is performing strongly
• Contribute to a data-led underwriting approach, leveraging modern technology and analytics

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assess, price, and negotiate risks in line with underwriting strategy
• Build and maintain broker relationships, both remotely and face-to-face (role dependent)
• Identify opportunities for growth within existing and new business pipelines
• Use data and insight to support underwriting decisions and portfolio performance
• Collaborate with internal teams across underwriting, claims, and distribution

What They’re Looking For

• Experience in commercial combined or property & casualty underwriting
• Ability to balance technical underwriting with commercial judgement
• Strong broker engagement skills (for trading roles)
• Confidence working within a data-driven environment
