Job Description:

AI‑Native Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid (Wilmslow HQ) or Remote

Salary: Competitive

Role Overview

This role is a hands‑on engineering position at the centre of a platform transformation. You will be a core contributor to a squad that is changing how software is built, owned, and delivered, with direct influence over quality and direction. The focus is on moving from a traditional release cycle to CI/CD, shifting shared services into team‑owned boundaries, and embedding AI into our development process.

Responsibilities

  • Write production‑quality code daily across the full stack: backend, frontend, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Take ownership of features and workstreams from design to deployment, delivering shippable increments.
  • Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions with well‑reasoned input.
  • Run technical spikes and proofs of concept to explore approaches and reduce uncertainty.
  • Manage your own technical debt responsibly.
  • Play an active part in decomposing shared services into team‑owned components.
  • Support the move to CI/CD by contributing to pipelines, automated tests, and trunk‑based development.
  • Build with observability in mind: instrumentation, logging, monitoring.
  • Take operational responsibility for the systems you build.
  • Write clean, testable, secure code and practice test‑driven development.
  • Participate actively in code review, giving and receiving feedback.
  • Apply secure coding practices (dependency management, threat awareness, security testing).
  • Use AI natively in your engineering work – think through problems, generate and review code, and build and test solutions.
  • Contribute to AI‑powered workflows that improve delivery capability.
  • Engage with the team’s AI agents and tooling, helping to refine and improve them.
  • Bring a critical eye to AI‑generated output, verifying quality and maintaining standards.
  • Work closely with Tech Lead and teammates through pairing, mob programming, and shared problem‑solving.
  • Support less experienced engineers via code review, pairing, and daily conversation.
  • Participate in planning, refinement, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Take an active interest in your own development, staying current with technologies and practices.

Required Experience and Skills

Technical

  • Proven experience delivering complex features on production systems.
  • Full‑stack capability across backend and frontend, with databases and cloud infrastructure.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure/AWS) and containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Sound security fundamentals: secure coding, dependency management, awareness of common vulnerabilities.
  • Experience refactoring and improving existing codebases.

AI‑Native Engineering Practice

  • Demonstrable experience using AI as a genuine part of your engineering workflow.
  • Comfortable critically evaluating, refining, and taking responsibility for AI‑generated output.

Behavioural

  • High standards – pride in quality and shipping reliable work.
  • Collaborative – share openly, improve teammates.
  • Self‑directed – take ownership and deliver without constant oversight.
  • Adaptable to change – remain positive when priorities shift.
  • Curious and committed to learning – continuously develop skills and share new ideas.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or contributing to AI agents or automated workflows in production.
  • Experience with event‑driven architectures, message queues, or reactive systems.
  • Contributions to open source or active participation in technical communities.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays.
  • Birthday day off.
  • Post‑wedding holiday bonus.
  • Family support vouchers.
  • Private healthcare (cash plan).
