Senior Electrical Engineer – Kemsley Paper Mill
DS Smith’s Kemsley Paper Mill is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Department. This is a key leadership role responsible for the reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement of the site-wide electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers maintaining both HV and LV systems, ensuring full compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise electrical maintenance activities across the site, ensuring safe and effective delivery of work.
- Ensure full compliance with statutory and legal requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, supporting risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and incident investigations.
- Manage and continuously improve the site electrical isolation systems and processes.
- Ensure all electrical systems are compliant with ATEX standards and DSEAR regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and support for day‑to‑day maintenance and complex fault resolution.
- Drive the development and delivery of electrical projects from concept through to completion.
- Manage maintenance and project budgets, including forecasting and cost control.
- Utilise SAP (CMMS) to plan, track, and optimise maintenance activities and workflows.
- Mentor and develop engineers and apprentices, building capability across the team.
- Participate in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota and support operational teams when required.
About You
- Degree-qualified (BEng or MEng) in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment, including time in a senior role.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV and LV electrical systems, maintenance strategies, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience of managing budgets and understanding the commercial impact of engineering decisions.
- Familiarity with ATEX and DSEAR regulations and their practical application.
- Competent in the use of CMMS systems such as SAP for maintenance planning and execution.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to take ownership of complex technical issues.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it, with a recognised professional body (e.g. IET or CIBSE) is desirable.
