The underwriting team at IPS Group Birmingham are supporting a highly regarded global Insurer often mentioned as one of the most desirable Insurers to work for in the market. They are looking to appoint a Senior Construction Underwriter in this new business focused role which can be based in either Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds. This is a senior, high profile role with responsibility for driving new business, managing key broker relationships, and contributing to the growth of a £25M construction portfolio. Youll be joining a team of experienced Construction Underwriters with high visibility and direct exposure to senior leadership, this role will offer real influence over underwriting strategy and portfolio development. Youll be working across a varied and technically engaging mix of business including annual contractors policies and project specific construction risks. You will be a referral oversight for liability underwriters where construction elements require specialist input. Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Trading

  • Underwrite construction risks across a multi-line portfolio
  • Assess, price, and negotiate new business opportunities
  • Manage a consistent flow of submissions via CRM systems
  • Make timely, commercially sound underwriting decisions

Broker Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers across the UK
  • Drive engagement through regular calls and face-to-face meetings
  • Clearly communicate underwriting appetite and capabilities
  • Identify and convert new business opportunities

Business Development

  • Develop and manage your own pipeline of business
  • Support the growth of open market trading activity
  • Contribute to the expansion of facilities and schemes

Technical Leadership

  • Act as a referral point for complex risks
  • Mentor and support junior underwriters
  • Provide technical guidance across underwriting teams

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to evaluation of facilities, schemes, and tenders
  • Support portfolio growth initiatives and innovation

To be considered you must have construction underwriting experience, this can either be an established Senior Underwriter looking for a new challenge or an Underwriter looking to step up into a senior role. This is a real stand out opportunity to join an Insurer who offers something a little different to the average composite. They are in serious growth mode and are doing things in the right way. You will be rewarded with a base salary up to £80,000 + a bonus of up to 20% and an excellent benefits package including private medical and dental and an excellent pension.
