About The Role

We’re launching our Modern Apprenticeship Programme in Software Engineering: a brand-new pathway into tech for people ready to learn, build and start their career without taking the traditional university route.

Based in our Glasgow office, you’ll join Skyscanner as a full-time employee on an 18-month fixed‑term contract while working towards an SVQ Level 8 in Software Development. You’ll spend four days a week embedded in engineering teams, with one protected learning day dedicated to your qualification and development.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Learning by building: You’ll develop real software engineering skills while contributing to work that helps millions of travellers explore the world more easily.
  • Joining engineering teams: You’ll spend four days a week working alongside Skyscanner engineers, learning how modern tech teams plan, build, test and ship.
  • Studying with support: You’ll work towards an SVQ Level 8 in Software Development with QA, with dedicated learning time built into your week.
  • Getting to know Skyscanner: You’ll take part in structured onboarding covering our tools, teams, ways of working and all the “what does that acronym mean?” essentials.
  • Building professional confidence: You’ll grow your communication, teamwork and workplace skills through tailored development and support.
  • Learning safely and steadily: You’ll have regular check‑ins, mentoring and guidance from managers, teams and our Emerging Talent crew.
  • Helping shape the future: As part of our first pilot cohort, your experience will help us build an even better apprenticeship pathway for future talent.

About You

  • Curious about technology: You’re excited by software engineering and keen to understand how great digital products are built.
  • Some academic foundations help: You must have National 5 qualifications in Maths and English, plus at least one Higher qualification.
  • Problem‑solving minded: You enjoy figuring things out, whether that’s spotting patterns, fixing bugs or making something work better.
  • Collaborative by nature: You like learning with others, sharing ideas and being part of a team.
  • Open to feedback: You’re comfortable trying, learning, improving and occasionally discovering that the computer was right all along.
  • Excited to start your career: Applicants must be aged 16 or over at the start of the programme.

Salary

£25,000 per annum
